Director of Student Success
Position Purpose: Reporting to the Associate Dean of Admissions & Student Success, the Director of Student Success provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and vision for academic advising and transfer support initiatives across the institution. This role is central to the college’s mission of student retention, persistence, and completion—ensuring every student receives personalized, proactive support from initial enrollment to graduation or successful transfer. The Director leads a team of Student Success Navigators, develops data-informed strategies to optimize student outcomes, and fosters a student-centered culture built on equity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for academic advising, transfer services, and student success programs across multiple campus locations and online.
- Lead the development and implementation of a proactive, holistic advising model that supports diverse student populations, including nontraditional, online, and underrepresented students.
- Supervise and mentor a team of 10+ Student Success Navigators (professional advisors), supporting their development through training, coaching, and performance evaluation.
- Utilize data analytics and student success technologies, including early alert systems to support case management, identify at-risk students, and drive targeted interventions.
- Collaborate with academic deans, faculty, and administration to align advising strategies with curricular pathways, academic policies, and degree requirements.
- Monitor and manage advising caseloads and workflows to ensure equitable and effective service delivery.
- Assess advising and transfer services regularly, using student feedback and performance metrics to improve outcomes and streamline processes.
- Provide leadership during organizational change efforts, including realignment of advising structures, role clarification, and caseload adjustments.
- Serve as the institution’s primary liaison to four-year colleges and universities, coordinating articulation agreements, concurrent enrollment partnerships, and statewide transfer initiatives.
- Plan and deliver engaging transfer programming, such as workshops, fairs, campus visits, and information sessions.
- Oversee the development and dissemination of transfer-related materials and online resources to ensure broad student access and awareness.
- Promote consistent, clear, and accessible degree and transfer pathways to eliminate barriers to completion.
- Stay current on national best practices and trends in advising, student success, and transfer initiatives to maintain institutional leadership in these areas.

Required Qualifications:
- Proven ability to analyze data, implement evidence-based strategies, and assess program effectiveness.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively across institutional departments.
- Ability to communicate complex academic information clearly to a wide range of audiences, including students, staff, faculty, and external partners.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to equity in education
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to quickly changing circumstances and to use data to guide complex decision-making.
- Strong understanding of student development theory, motivational interviewing and holistic/intrusive advising practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead people and manage conflict.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience in academic advising, student success, or transfer services in a post-secondary environment. Experience in a community college setting preferred.
- Experience with SIS and early-alert platforms for the purposes of advising and/or enrollment (Banner and Starfish experience preferred).
- Familiarity with transfer policy and articulation agreements at the state and regional levels. Experience with Missouri CORE42 preferred.
- Background in supporting online or nontraditional learners.
- Experience with budget management and departmental resource allocation.
Physical Requirements:
- Work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting.
- There is frequent sitting, with walking, standing and stooping occasionally required.
- There is an occasional need to lift objects (up to 20 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
