Reporting to the Clinton Campus Director, this position will work closely with current and prospective students, SFCC faculty and staff as well as community members.

  • Foster and maintain an interactive advising process between Navigator and student.
  • Actively promote each student’s academic, career and personal development.
  • Facilitate a student-centered approach among staff and faculty.
  • Cross-trained position: Advising, Admissions, Financial Aid, Testing, Business Office and IT support


Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills


  • Provide direct support to all Clinton Campus and assigned program students.
  • Foster the student’s sense of responsibility for academic progress.
  • Assist the student in obtaining accurate information about educational and career options, academic requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Assist students in creating success plans to track progress towards their educational goal(s). Advise and enroll students based on student preference, customized success plan, required courses to complete educational goal(s) and course availability each semester. 
  • Assist students with comprehensive information that will promote completion; access to resources to help with career planning and decision making.
  • Conduct follow up activities to promote retention success; identify at-risk students and determine appropriate referrals to on and off-campus resources.
  • Coordinate appeals processes, including financial aid, academic standing and prerequisite courses.  Liaison with students regarding grade appeals, conduct and grievance processes. 
  • Determine and conduct appropriate follow up activities to promote retention and completion (flags, referrals, kudo’s and To-Do, outreach, enrollment push), including precise documentation.
  • Lead and convene student success team, consisting of navigator and department faculty, in annual research of retention and completion factors.  Develop/implement/evaluate projects and strategies to influence factors in a positive direction.
  • Instruct students through various self-service programs such as Starfish, mySFCC, Canvas and Degree Works.
  • Provide and review data/feedback to conduct student outreach as well as complete requested reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of student, staff, and organizational information.
  • Provide presentations to classes, organizations and community groups as requested.  Occasional travel to area high schools and events may be required.
  • Actively participate in professional development within the college and externally through various organizations. Occasional travel to Sedalia campus for trainings/meetings.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements


Required Qualifications:

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Computer Skills including word processing, email, internet and basic spreadsheet skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service knowledge using strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Minimum two years of experience in an educational setting or leadership/management role.

Ability to:

  • Play an active role in student recruitment, enrollment and retention.  
  • Manage time and resources, prioritizing work load.  
  • Maintain attention to detail, work independently with minimal supervision, maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines.  
  • Facilitate positive interactions with a broad range of people with diverse backgrounds.  
  • Embrace ever-changing technology.  
  • Supervise facility/staff in absence of Director/Assistant Director and be able to work evenings and weekends on occasion.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college.

PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work involves fast paced work in an office setting. There is frequent sitting, with walking, standing and stooping occasionally required. There is an occasional need to lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
