Position Purpose: The Program Director position is a professional staff position with responsibilities for Diagnostic Medical Sonography program administration and curriculum instruction.

The program director is responsible for the delivery of quality educational experiences for students enrolled in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. The director ensures the standards of studentcentered services are delivered through relevant curriculum, effective delivery methods, and fair and equitable treatment of students. Other duties include supervision of faculty and interfacing with accrediting organizations. The director facilitates activities related to academic policies, personnel policies, curriculum, resources, facilities, services, budget, and program evaluation.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Maintain program master plan.
2. Develops, maintains, and enforces program policies and procedures.
3. Teach classes within the specific major.
4. Develop and implement course and program learning objectives and outcomes.
5. Develop, implement, and conduct assessments related to student learning outcomes.
6. Maintain master course syllabi for the program.
7. Oversee course loads for program faculty.
8. Ensure that all courses taught within the program maintain a high standard of quality, are delivered as defined in the syllabus, and reflect CAAHEP learning objectives applicable to the course.
9. Create outcomes assessment reports:
a. Program review
b. Assessment of faculty, program, and course curriculum and plan of action.
c. Data appropriate for budget requests
10. Supervises and evaluates faculty and staff, including adjunct faculty, within the program.
11. Provides oversight of faculty attendance and grade submissions.
12. Interfaces with all levels of administration on matters concerning full-time employees, full-time faculty, part-time employees, adjunct faculty, and students.
13. Coordinate faculty activities in the program.
14. Develop course curriculum and scheduling within the program.
15. Work with Clinical Coordinator to initiate and maintain affiliation agreements with a variety of hospitals to enhance student learning in the clinical setting.
16. Coordinate textbook selection and orders for the program.
17. Facilitate programmatic faculty meetings and advisory committee meetings.
18. Direct recruitment and selection of new faculty and staff members for his/her program.
19. Responsible for mentoring new faculty and staff to ensure their understanding of the program and SFCC objectives and outcomes.
20. Coordinate renewals and maintain copies of current licensure, certifications, etc. as required for faculty in the program.
21. Develop and maintain all CAAHEP accreditation requirements including self-evaluations, reports and site visits.
22. Maintain records, reports, examinations, data, and other program specific items as required by the college, accrediting bodies, or governmental agencies.
23. Develop and maintain student handbook in compliance with CAAHEP policies.
24. Advise individual Sonography students regarding academic standing, absenteeism, clinical performance and/or personal needs as necessary (according to program policy).
25. Implement and document disciplinary procedures and coordinate review board hearings as needed.
26. Collaborate with Navigator and other faculty regarding Student Success.
27. Ensure student files are maintained for each student with complete admission information and ensure confidentiality of student records.
28. Participate in student activities as appropriate.
29. Participation in departmental and institutional policies.
30. Shall be knowledgeable of program related revenue, costs, and benefits and exhibit proficiency in budgeting and cost/benefit analyses, as required by sponsoring institution.
31. Directs recruitment and marketing efforts for program by collaborating with college resources in student services and marketing.
32. Determine admission criteria, maintain program applications, coordinate evaluation of applicants and organize orientation of new sonography students.
33. Assist with and participate in graduation/pinning activities.
34. Submit information for student liability purchase, as needed, and maintain records of:
a. Immunizations
b. Background checks
c. Drug screens
35. Serve on councils/committees as requested by Dean, VP, or President.
36. Meet SFCC expectations of in-service attendance.

Additional Job Responsibilities:
1. Clinical:
a. Make recommendations for implementation of the changes to the clinical curriculum and guidelines.
b. Work with Clinical Coordinator to ensure students receive appropriate clinical experience per the DMS handbook.
c. Work with Clinical Coordinator to ensure appropriate direct and indirect supervision of students in the clinical setting.
d. Work with Clinical Coordinator to develop informational materials for clinical sites and ensure clinical instructors are appropriately trained.
e. Maintain positive working relationships and open communication with clinical sites.
f. Work with the Clinical Coordinator to ensure affiliation agreements and CV forms are complete and up to date for all clinical sites.
g. Along with the Clinical Coordinator and Administrative Assistant ensure that all vaccination, drug testing, background, clinical attendance, clinical experience, and
clinical competency records are complete and up to date.
h. Assist the Clinical Coordinator in the Ultrasound lab as needed.
i. Invite Clinical representatives to Bi-Yearly Advisory Board meetings and provide clinical sites with relevant programmatic updates.
j. Ensure that DMS program is serving the needs of clinical stakeholders.

2. Classroom:
a. Develop and implement program curriculum content and delivery.
b. Develop program instructional policies and ensure all faculty understand and implement the policies.
c. Provide appropriate and varied instructional experiences to meet the objectives of the program.
d. Utilize LMS Software, classroom technology, computers, and other instructional aids as appropriate.
e. Assist instructor in another course when necessary.
f. Ensure all instructors are appropriately credentialed for their assigned courses.
g. Other duties as deemed necessary for the function of the college.

Sonography Director Administrative and Instructional Job Expectations
The Program Director is expected to follow all requirements defined in the SFCC faculty handbook with any exceptions approved by the Dean. The Program Director is expected to work a minimum of 40-hour work week. The expectation is to be available for faculty and students online, on ground, by phone, or in the clinical setting. The Director is expected to carry a maximum instruction load of 8 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring) and 4 credit hours in the summer. There is no minimum requirement for instruction. Additional credit hours of instruction must be approved by the Dean.

The preceding duties are examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification but are not all inclusive. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.

Required Qualifications:
• Meet the qualifications specified by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education
Programs (CAAHEP).
• Must hold at minimum one of the following sets of credentials: RDMS (Ab, OB/GYN) & RVT
(OR) RDCS (AE) & RVT. CCI credentials are also acceptable for Adult Echo and Vascular
Technology.
• Applicants with additional ARDMS, CCI, or ARRT certifications preferred.
• Prior experience with JRCDMS accreditation preferred.
• Minimum of a baccalaureate degree.
• Equivalent of two (2) years of full-time (35 hours per week or more) experience within five (5) years or have a total of four (4) years of part-time experience in the last five years as a general sonographer, cardiac sonographer, pediatric cardiac sonographer and/or vascular technologist.
• Master’s Degree or willingness to pursue a master’s degree is preferred.
• Current BCLS
• Immunizations up to date.
• Proficiency/experience in teaching methodology, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and  guidance preferred.
• Operate independently on own initiative. Work is often self-directed to meet requirements, deadlines and timelines.
• Able to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a current driver’s license and insurance.
• Driving to clinical sites is required and may involve several hours in the vehicle.
• Requires completion of EDUC 147 – Intro to Teaching Online (2) Cr and EDUC 149 Teaching with LMS Software (2) Cr.
• Experience with budget oversight and control and developing cost analyses a plus.

Education/Experience:
• Minimum of a baccalaureate degree.
• Equivalent of two (2) years of full-time (35 hours per week or more) experience within five (5) years or have a total of four (4) years of part-time experience in the last five years as a general  sonographer, cardiac sonographer, pediatric cardiac sonographer and/or vascular technologist.
• Documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance and in  educational theories and techniques
• Master’s Degree or willingness to pursue a master’s degree is preferred.
• Current BCLS

Skills:
Ability to use information technology for professional productivity, such as Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom. Demonstrate evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrate student  centeredness, able to interact with a broad range of people with diverse backgrounds both on and off  campus in a positive manner, demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community  college. Possess proficiency in instructional methodology and program planning. Demonstrate skilled leadership.

• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (6 to 8 hours)
