Surgical Technology Clinical Coordinator

The full-time faculty Clinical Coordinator will be responsible for the design and delivery of the Surgical Technology program curriculum to students enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology degree program.

 

Position Purpose:

The Clinical Coordinator will work with the Director of the Surgical Technology program to deliver a quality educational experience to students in the Surgical Technology program. 

 

Reports to: Director of Surgical Technology Program



The Clinical Coordinator shall:

 

  • Fulfill obligations as a faculty member.
  • Coordinate clinical education through administration, organization, and supervision of the student clinical experience, ensuring program outcomes.
  • Provide didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction including appropriate and varied experiences to meet the objectives of the program.
  • Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the program and the syllabi.
  • Ensure documentation of the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competence.
  • Provide continuous quality review and improvement of student clinical experience.
  • Provide required orientation to clinical site personnel responsible for supervising/instructing students.
  • Collaborate with Director as appropriate regarding student absences, exam remediation, and student concerns.
  • Assist Director with budget development for supplies, equipment, and software needed to implement and maintain the program.
  • Assist with delivery of new student orientation. 
  • Attend SFCC Health Science pinning and graduation ceremonies.
  • Suggest needed changes related to the classroom and clinical instruction to the Director to achieve program goals.
  • Be able to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a current driver’s license and insurance; driving to clinical sites will be required and may involve several hours in the vehicle.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current BLS for health care providers by American Heart Association.
  • Maintain involvement in community activities, services and professional development, which enhance or support the goals and mission of the program and college as appropriate.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary for the function of the college.

Required Qualifications & Education/Experience: The Clinical Coordinator must:

  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology (or receive within 6 months of hire) through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Have a minimum of three years of documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the last five years.

 

Skills:

Ability to use information technology for professional productivity, such as Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrate evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrate student centeredness, able to interact with a broad range of people with diverse backgrounds both on and off campus in a positive manner, demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college. Possess proficiency in instructional methodology and program planning. Demonstrate skilled leadership.

 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (6-8 hours).


Supplemental Information:

During contracted days, full-time faculty must be accessible to students and colleagues in person on campus, by phone, or by email during normal operating hours of the college. Full-time faculty must hold at least 5 Student Support Hours a week during the fall and spring semesters, scheduled over 2 or more days a week, at least 3 being held on-ground. Faculty members on 184-day contracts must hold 2 Student Support Hours per week during the summer term they are teaching. Faculty are expected to be on campus or in the clinical setting a minimum of 20 minutes prior to scheduled course/clinical start time.
